Job Description of the Position
Responsible for emergency response (survey, identification of disaster requiring assistance, evaluations of status, planning response, reaching out to local partners, liaising with NDMA and SDMA, volunteer database, putting together resources, leading the response on the ground, carrying it forward to logical conclusion, mobilizing further assistance from other interested parties, follow up)
Duties and Responsibilities
a) Emergency Readiness
Develop and foster partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations
Maintain a roster of on-call Emergency Responders
Execute a strategy for engagement of rostered members, track member availability to ensure adequate coverage at all times as detailed out in National Emergency Response Plan (NERP)
Responsible for disaster preparedness training (training material, faculty database, manuals, props, MCQs, liaising with NDMA, other government bodies, NGOs, corporate, communities, etc; conducting training programs, workshops, tabletop exercises and drills)
Identify, procure, and manage the emergency response supplies in India
Update the NERP document and response tool on yearly basis
b) Response
Assess the need to respond to incidents and recommend action as appropriate. Identify and pursue the most effective methods to deliver assistance to partners and affected communities
Lead responses across India and neighboring countries
Lead efforts to ensure safety and security of all country personnel with careful planning by following laid protocols in NERP
Activate roster members based on specific emergency response needs, often with short notice
Set-up and manage response in field, identify, screen and on-board new partners in accordance with Organisation procedures as appropriate, gather and share information, minimize duplication of effort, and identify resource gaps
Assess needs and develop and implement response plans
During disaster events, coordinate with local NGOs, government agencies, international NGOs, and UN agencies, including participation in Health Cluster, Logistics Cluster, and/or other relevant cluster meetings
Manage the shipments and deliveries of medicines, medical supplies and other aid from warehouses to beneficiary partners and facilities.
Manage the deployment and oversight of medical teams, ensuring effective coordination with appropriate government entities, assuring quality of services, ensure patient data is collected and maintained in accordance with it and national standards.
Get deployed, when necessary and appropriate, to disaster-affected region, or coordinate response from Organisation.
Work with programs team to design recovery initiatives and implement the same
Monitoring and Evaluation
Follow up with partners to obtain reports
Post disaster response, lead action debriefs to capture lessons learned from responses and to perpetuate a cycle of continual improvement and organizational learning
Conduct follow-up site visits as needed to evaluate outcomes and impact at the institutional and community level

Communications
Prepare, update and circulate Fact Sheets with details of each response to keep internal and external stakeholders informed of ER activities
Draft reports, personal reflections and donor feedback to be used for web stories, communications with donors and other reporting.
Write reports on disaster response conducted
Support communications team with information
Required Qualifications
Masters/bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, emergency management, emergency medicine, or related field with 5-8 years of experience.
Experience
Experience of coordinating programs related to emergency response work will be an added advantage.
Desired Profile of the candidate
Passion and the desire to work within the humanitarian aid/emergency response field
Ability and willingness to deploy on short notice and for periods of one to six weeks. Able to spend up to 30% of time in the field
Ability to work effectively in complex and highly fluid situations
Self-starter with ability to function as a team player among peers
Ability to work in stressful circumstances, sometimes in austere conditions
Ability to exercise sound leadership and judgment
Should be a good team player with good organizational skills
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Must be proficient in English with good command over Hindi
Ability to proficiently use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet
