Purpose of role

Developing major donor (Major Gift and Key Donor) fundraising program, in line with the organisational Growth Plan, to match the organization Standards and to establish relations with New and Existing Key High Net Worth Individuals in India to scale the Department objectives.

Main duties

Central Information

  • Setting the Major and Key Donor Acquisition, Key Influencer’s including Celebrity Engagement funding model.
  • Manage and scale the portfolio of primary prospects
  • Identifying potential donors to approach where possible.
  • Cultivate relationships with major and Key donors.
  • Proactively seek large gift opportunities from High-Net-Worth Individuals
  • - Create a separate segment of such individuals
    - Develop and propose strategies, for solicitation of major gifts, such as determining on-going relationships with prospect/donor; recommending specific purpose and level of gift; identifying those to be involved in cultivation and subsequent solicitation; assuring that solicitations are carried out.
  • Ensure funding given by donors are tracked and kept updated by the Major and Key Donor Fundraisers
  • Ensure all necessary information is available for a timely report back to donors as well as internal fund tracking purpose (finance departments).
  • Develop strong relationships with a core network of donors
  • Plan, develop, co-ordinate and implement special donor initiatives such as private meetings, supporter events and group presentations that seek to encourage increased support for organization. Planning supporter visits to project site.
  • Working on larger projects like Ships, Collaborating with other NRO’s on a transnational event
  • Contribute to the wider fundraising departments and larger organisational activities by taking up additional responsibilities of surveys, documentation and consultations including have the ability to build the funding package and communication strategy

Strategic Planning

  • Create a yearly Major Donor/Key Donor strategic plan to be presented to and agreed by the relevant senior managers ensuring a consolidated strategy for Major gifts and Key donor funding – with clear plans for execution and evaluation of objectives and creating and reaching direct targets.
  • Use existing individual relationships and sign-up new donors.
  • To plan donor meeting accompanied by other senior members of the organisation

Serve as a direct point of contact for major and key donor programme

  • Managing existing, and cultivating new donor relationships through direct donor visits, communication and strategic research.
  • Record relevant information about the supporter’s areas of interest, expertise and resources he/she can provide to organization.
  • Identify opportunities where supporter’s resources may be useful for other Units in the organisation
  • Organise events for major & key donor supporters.
  • Maintain excellent donor relations through personal contacts, phone calls, email and letter correspondence.
  • Create communication materials for engagement and increase of reach

Work with other departments

  • Coordinate with the respective Fund-Raising Units/Unit Heads, wherever any support is required for the major donor program.
  • Coordinate with Campaigns/PE/Actions unit to keep track of possible high value fundraising opportunities and for important updates to be sent to Major Donors/Prospects.
  • Build and manage internal and external networks to assist in identification, cultivation and solicitation of high value donors and support

Working with other NRO’s

  • Establishing relationship with other NRO’s for initiating transnational funding.
  • Collaboration with other Global Offices: Finding opportunities to Identify skills in priority offices and develop training and skill share ensuring integration with other initiatives in the Global Engagement

Work with Campaigns

  • Identify key priority projects and create potential Major Donor/key Donor Fundraising opportunities.

      Monitor ongoing campaign projects, in coordination with campaigns, in order to identify changes to funding agreements that will affect current proposals and reporting criteria.

  • Working on specific project based proposals
  • Being part of projects. Projects: Being part of core team as a FR point of contact for implementation of Projects. This would be on rotational basis

Major donor fundraising budget

  • Prepare major gifts’ budget submission to Fundraising Unit Head and be responsible for all expenditure within the annual Major Donor operating budget.

Management Duties

  • Line Manage Major and Key Donor Fundraisers in accordance to the overall objectives of the programme
  • Intensive capacity development of new and existing team members with new techniques and plans.
  • Provide guidance and support for acquisitions to be done in Major and Key Donor program
  • Ensure reports are maintained and shared in the formats provided to Major Donor Fundraiser
  • Plan, assign and monitor monthly targets for the Major Donor Fundraisers
  • Provide feedbacks to Major Donor Fundraisers based on Performance Review Mechanism
  • Ensure potential donor data base is utilised in the most effective manner by Major Donor Fundraisers
  • Advise, mentor and assist Major Donor/Key Donor Fundraisers in developing proposals

            and solicitation strategies

  • Share reports of progress with line manager and update on deviations and corrective measures taken to achieve the targets
  • Prepare and execute training plan for the Major and Key Donor Fundraisers to develop a cultivation plan for Major Donor Supporters
  • Resolve conflicts if any and ensure proper documentation in such cases is maintained and shared with the line manager

Decisions

  • Identify which campaign information should be shared with the supporters and in what format; for sensitive issues approval from line manager to be taken for sharing information which may not be in the public domain.
  • Identify the supporter to be approached as per needs/requests of other Units in the organisation.
  • The communication channel/process to be followed where Major and Key Donor Supporters are connected with other people in the organisation
  • Publications and reports that need to be shared with the supporters
  • Sign off on all external communication sent to Major and Key Donor Supporters
  • Hiring and separation of Major and Key Donor Fundraisers
  • Approve expenses for Major an Key Donor Fundraisers

For information/updates on campaigns. Persuade/Negotiate with campaigners to join them for meetings with supporters where needed and also for getting detailed information about campaigns that may be required for sharing with Supporters.

Advise on training plan format to be prepared and implemented for Major Donor Fundraisers

Co-ordinating with content writers and Graphic designers for designing supporter communication material (Magazines, Personalised Mails, proposals etc)

Knowledge and experience

  • 8+ years of non-profit fundraising experience,
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in handling key accounts
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and preferably knowledge of an Indian language
  • Proactive & self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Computer literacy is essential as the role requires data generation and analysis
  • Experience of team management
  • Strong influencing skills: the ability to communicate and persuade others to contribute to joint goals
  • A creative and innovative thinker, flexible, energetic and Enthusiastic
  • Knowledge of current affairs

Organisation Skills

Planning and organizing:

  • Work with line manager to prepare the units income / expense plans
  • Breaking down annual targets into monthly and weekly plans
  • Record and Organize the information provided by Campaigners in a proper format and disseminate the information to the Major Donor Fundraisers, as a part of the Supporter Journey designed for Major Donor Fundraisers
  • Segmenting supporters targeted for monthly basis. Preparing a meeting plan and organizing travel plans and finalizing meetings accordingly.
  • Plan work flow to be followed/maintained by the Major Donor Fundraisers

Analysis:

  • Analyzing the data and identifying potential donors who can become major donors
  • Analyse data on a regular basis to keep track of conversion percentages, increase in average donation values, contact percentage, etc.
  • Take corrective action to address deviations from the plan identified by analyzing individual performance data

Research

  • Carrying out extensive research of market scenario
  • Making use of different tools for doing research

Working with others:

  • The role requires dynamism and good communication skills and lot of patience. It would also require considerable tact and diplomacy as it involves a large number of interpersonal interactions with ‘High Net worth’ people of varying personalities and extremely busy schedule and many a times with ‘Public Face’. These things are very crucial as the program aims at higher ROI (as the individual contributions sort for are of High Value)

Environmental demands

  • As the role requires one to one meeting with pan India supporters, meetings should be planned to keep in mind safety of the staff
  • Frequent travel for donor meetings across India
