Job Description

Job Title: Psychologist & Program Manager 

Department: Pediatric Psycho- Oncology Program (PPOP)  

Reporting Head:  HOD PPOP, DGM & Sr Manager.

Job Location: Nagpur & Surat

Role description: To work across all aspects of the Cankids PPO program (Pediatric Psycho- Oncology Program) 

Special focus areas will be:

  1. PPO Program planning and implementation: Implementation of the Pediatric psycho-Oncology program services, help developing Protocols, policies, budgets and other administrative tasks as needed

 

  1. Psychological Intervention Clinics (SIC): To diagnose, access and manage the condition of the patient undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers. They may have a variety of mental or physical health issues, such as: anxiety, depression, and mental illness, adjustment to physical illness, neurological disorders, addictive and challenging behaviours, eating disorders, personal and family relationship problems, and learning disabilities-
  1. Psychological assessment:
  1. Administering psychological assessment by using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of their behaviour.
  2. Diagnosing and identifying patients and their caregiver’s mental, behavioural or emotional disorders and needs.
  1. Treatment plan:
  1. Developing, administering and monitoring appropriate treatment plan and strategies including therapy, counselling or advice, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Offer therapy and treatments for issues relating to a range of mental health conditions during different stages of cancer such as -first line of treatment, Pre & Post BMT, Relapse, Pre & Post surgery, Survivorship, Palliative, Terminal phase and Bereavement stage.  This is to be provided to the patients and families in Wards, Hospital OPDs and our Clinics.
  1. Follow up and referrals:  
  1. Monitor patient’s progress through regular meetings or sessions.
  2. Collaborating with other professionals in multidisciplinary teams might be necessary in order to deal with patient’s complex issues.
  3. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside doctors, nurses, social workers, education professionals, support groups, physiotherapists and psychiatrists.

 

  1. Group and Expressive Therapies
  1. Sharing & Caring Sessions: Conducting Sharing & Caring Sessions with parents of newly diagnosed; Relapse; Palliative, Terminal; Teenage cancer patients survivors and Pediatric oncology medical and social support teams.
  1. Procedural pain: Planning and conducting Non- Pharmacological Interventions for Procedural Pain through non pharmacological approaches to the reduction of procedural pain like comfort position posters, educational Journals on medical procedure, training videos, Handy Candy, Toy Medical Kits and Distraction Carts.
  2. Expressive Therapies: Planning and conducting Play, Art, Music and Clown Therapy, Relaxation, Meditation and Story Telling Sessions with the patients and the caregivers as well.

 

  1. Child Life Interventions: This includes integrating innovative complementary approaches to treatment focusing on the children undergoing cancer treatment, setting up child friendly wards, Toy and story book library and wish granting.

 

  1. Patient and parent teaching and psycho-education: To organize and conduct Psycho education sessions with the patients and caregivers regarding various topics such as coping with stress, anxiety and behavioral issues.

 

  1. Advisory: Provide consultation and liaising with other team professionals, encouraging a psychological approach in their work.

 

  1. You are Not Alone Program (YANA):  Ensuring proper implementation and supervision of the YANA Program with the Social Support Team including the Parent Support Group Members and Social Workers at the Cankids Hospital Support Units and Care Centers.

 

  1. Capacity and skill Building in Pediatric Psycho-oncology : To plan, organize and conduct ongoing training sessions for multidisciplinary team of Psychologists, Social Workers, Support Groups, Students and Medical Professionals through didactic lectures, Videos, role-play exercises, group and field work.

 

  1.  Impact assessment, Research and Study:
  1. Development of tools and projects for interventions.
  2. Carry out applied research through interviews, surveys and observations, adding to the evidence base of psychological practice in a variety of healthcare settings (Impact assessment). Publish research findings in relevant journals
  3. Review relevant literature, synthesize evidence-based materials, and translate complex behavioral health concepts.
  1. Reporting and documentation:
  1. Writing monthly and annual reports.
  2. Maintaining case records and online patient records.  
  3. Preparing case studies of the patients and their caregivers.

 

  1.  Development of appropriate resources to facilitate the PPOP Program
  1. To identify and network with relevant organizations & resources that may help the patients and their families.
  2. To develop a nationwide resource directory of rehabilitation, counseling, and psychologists working with children affected by cancer.
  3. To identify the need for additional support from other services and makes appropriate internal and external referrals.

 

  1.  To be a part of other aligned projects/programs of the organization
